About GI on the Fly

GI on the Fly Outfitter and Guide River Service

Dear Fishing Folks,

Growing up fishing and hunting as many of us have, I found helping others through introduction to outdoor activities a mainstream to my untold future.  Enlisting with the Air Force serving this country for the last 26 years as First Sergeant Combat Communication and Security Forces, my belief of “People First” resonates within my soul.

I’ve had countless experiences introducing fishing opportunities.   I began tying flies when I was 6 or 7 years old and still have one or two of them in my fly box today.   When I was a kid I remember fly fishing with them with my Dad at Grand Lake Stream in Maine for Salmon and Trout.  Fishing with my Grandfathers on countless river and stream systems instilled old river values that I use today, and I still have their 1970’s model Batten Kill Fly and Spinning Rods.  During my adult life, fishing bass and walleye tournaments in Texas and South Dakota; I’ve felt the pressures of failure and success on the water.  With that said, no fish- no pay.  Because of my commitment to the military, fishing tournaments were my escape from daily duties.   Leaving Alaska in 2009 and spending ten years there, I’ve been blessed with countless fly fishing drifts down numerous rivers across the Last Frontier…Alaska.  Whether drifting a brown bear infested river landing 30” rainbows with friends; enjoying morale and welfare river trips with military families or fishing the country while serving in the military gave me many outdoor experiences I might not have had.

GI on the Fly’s belief of people first, lives within every trip.  With GI on the Fly and Copper Johns Resort accommodations, fishermen will find the perfect environment for a wonderful vacation and we will extend a “core value” approach to an outstanding adventure with memories lasting lifetimes.

We’ll fish the finest St Croix Fly Rod available with Okuma and Able Reels which are also available for purchase through Copper Johns Resorts Fly Shop.  Also, as a Jim Teeny Fly Guide, we’ll streamer fish with some of Jim’s wonder products.  His fly lines give a distinct advantage in catching large amounts of fish each day.  An Alaska approach to the White River is my wish.  Shore lunches are available; cold for the fisherman wishing more time on the river or a minicamp preparing your catch with home fries and other condiments.

A 21’ Number 1 Riverboat with 15hp Mercury will give you a comfortable, safe and productive day.  If water flow is low or shut of completely canoe trips are preferred and if a fisherman wishes a slow methodical approach, quiet and accurate, an 18ft Aire Cataraft will get you to where the fish lie.

Understanding water, reading it, knowing seams, shoals and other habitat, what patterns are hot and what’s not is my priority; yours will be landing memorable moments.

Your river adventure may be tailored to fit you.  Give Paul a call @ (907)350-6610 to get on the schedule.  If I’m not available give Copper Johns Resort a call @ (870)431-4454.  Thank you for checking out GI on the Fly at Copper Johns Resort and we all look forward to serving you soon.
